The Royal Thai Police have launched an online criminal record checking service, allowing Thai nationals to verify their records and receive results electronically without visiting a government office.
The service, introduced on Wednesday, is intended to make criminal record checks more convenient for people who need the documents for job applications, business transactions and other official purposes.
The police Criminal Records Division (CRD) has upgraded its public services with the launch of the fully digital system, said deputy government spokeswoman Ploytalay Laksmeesangchan.
Users can request a criminal record check by entering their full name and national identification number. The service can be accessed through the division’s website.
Applicants must complete four steps: submit an online request, verify their identity, make an online payment of 100 baht and receive the results within 7-15 days.
Identity verification can be completed either through the ThaiD application or by using numbers and the laser code found on the back of a national identity card and providing the required information.
Once processing is completed, the criminal record check will be sent to the applicant by email with a digital signature designed to ensure authenticity and security.
Users who verify their identity through the ThaiD application will be able to access the service and receive results by email.
The service applies to Thai nationals only and the documents issued through the system are provided only in Thai.
Foreigners holding certain types of visas and work permits are also required to undergo criminal record checks and fingerprinting. The latter must be done at a police station once a year, as the force conducts annual database clean-ups to erase investigation records for those who are cleared of charges, not prosecuted, or acquitted in court.
