NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - A 50-year-old palm plantation owner died after his bicycle reportedly lost balance on a narrow wooden bridge early Wednesday. His loyal dog was found standing guard beside the body.
Police were called to the scene at 7am on Wednesday at the plantation in Moo 6 of tambon Thi Wang in Thung Song district.
The victim, identified as Chalermsak Thanirat, was found lying across his overturned bicycle beneath a wooden bridge spanning a drainage canal. His right leg remained on the bridge while the rest of his body was trapped between the bridge and the bicycle. Officers found no signs of assault.
A white dog, believed to belong to the victim, remained beside Chalermsak as rescue workers moved his body away to allow a post-mortem examination.
Police said Chalermsak had left home on his bicycle to check on his plantation. Investigators believe the bicycle’s wheel slipped into a gap in the wooden bridge, causing him to lose control and fall.
Authorities suspect he struck his head during the fall and was unable to seek help. He was later found dead by passers-by.
Relatives said they had no doubts about the cause of death. After the examination, the body was released to the family for funeral rites.
