A foreign tourist has shared a video of himself riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by a Thai woman he said found him lost and in a “battered” state on Koh Tao, and took him to where he was staying.

He posted his account and his praise for the woman under the TikTok handle oscar_ratledge,
Along with the video, the TikTok user wrote: “Respect to this Thai woman who found me battered in Koh Tao and dropped me back to where I had no idea I was staying”.
The video racked up more than 1.1 million views and prompted a wave of comments praising the woman, who is apparently known as "Joy" and is a well-loved figure on the island.
Many comments came from other visitors or residents of Koh Tao who recognised the woman and echoed similar praise. She was described as one of the kindest people they had met on the island. (continues below)

One commenter said she had also once been helped home by “Joy”. Another called her "such a sweet girl" and fondly recalled their time on Koh Tao. Many others joined in with posts such as, “OMG YOU MET JOY” and “Love Joy”.
The sheer volume of appreciative comments suggests “Joy” has earned a local celebrity status, with many online users jokingly suggesting she be named Koh Tao's unofficial cultural ambassador.
“This makes me have a little bit of faith in humanity again,” one comment said.
